My apologies, it looks like internet access still works when I’m connected to the VPN on my Orbi network, I just cannot access intranet pages or remote in to my work desktop. Pinging 8.8.8.8 was successful when using the Orbi network and the hotspot.

I’m having the same issues as described and just wanted to point out that if you do the solution described here for gaining access to internet you do not use the VPN tunnel. Disabling the “use default gateway” means internet traffic will be routed through your normal connection not the VPN.
